JEE Main 2026 Application Form — Dates, Eligibility, Fees & Step-by-Step Process

The JEE Main application form is the first real step — getting it wrong loses you exam attempts, seat eligibility or both. Every year thousands of candidates get rejected for simple form errors: wrong category, mismatched photo specs, incorrect Class 12 details. Eligibility Criteria

Class 12 Qualification

• Passed Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2024 or 2025, OR appearing in 2026.
• Minimum 5 subjects in Class 12 including Physics, Maths, one of (Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational), English, and any other.
• Aggregate requirement for IIT/NIT admission: 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) OR being in the top 20 percentile of your board. Applies for JoSAA admission, not for JEE Main eligibility.

Age Limit

NO age limit for JEE Main itself. However, JEE Advanced (the next stage) has an age limit — candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2001 (with 5-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD). Plan accordingly if you want IIT admission.

Attempts

3 consecutive years from passing Class 12. Attempts = years, not individual sessions. Both Session 1 + Session 2 in one year = 1 attempt year. 6 sessions total across 3 years if utilised fully.

Fees may change for 2026; confirm on the official information bulletin. Payment modes: net banking, credit card, debit card, UPI. NO cash/cheque payments.

• Digital passport-size photo — JPG, 10–200 KB, colour, white background
• Signature — scanned, JPG, 4–30 KB, black ink on white paper
• PwD certificate (if applicable) — JPG, 50–300 KB
• Category certificate (if applicable) — JPG, 50–300 KB
• Class 10 mark sheet/certificate
• Class 12 mark sheet (or admit card if appearing)
• Aadhaar card / PAN / passport / voter ID / driving licence / ration card — for identity verification
• Active email ID + mobile number (for OTP verification)

Photo

• Format: JPG/JPEG
• Size: 10–200 KB
• Dimensions: 3.5 × 4.5 cm
• Background: Plain white or very light
• Recency: Taken within the last 6 months
• Face: Front-facing, no cap/sunglasses, both ears visible
• Name & date: Printed at the bottom (optional but recommended)

Signature

• Format: JPG/JPEG
• Size: 4–30 KB
• Dimensions: 3.5 × 1.5 cm
• Ink: Black ink on plain white paper
• Content: Full signature (as used on all official documents)

Step-by-Step Application Process

1. Visit jeemain.nta.nic.in and click the “New Registration” link when the application window opens.
2. Fill personal details. Name, DOB, gender, nationality, parent details, address. All details must match your Class 10/12 certificates EXACTLY.
3. Enter academic details. Class 12 board, school name, year of passing or appearing, PCM subjects.
4. Select exam preferences. Papers to appear for (Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, Paper 2B for B.Planning). Choose exam cities (4 cities in preference order).
5. Upload documents. Photo, signature, category certificate (if applicable). Follow size specs strictly — too large or too small will reject.
6. Preview the entire application before final submission. Check every field.
7. Pay fee online. Choose payment mode. Save the payment confirmation receipt.
8. Download and save the confirmation page (PDF). This is your registration proof. Print a copy for your records.

Correction Window

NTA opens a 3–5 day correction window after the application closes. You can correct:

• Name, DOB, mobile, email (limited corrections allowed)
• Parent details
• Class 12 board, year of passing, roll number
• Exam city preferences
• Category (cannot upgrade to higher reservation easily)
• Photo or signature (if rejected initially)

Cannot be changed: the paper (Paper 1/2A/2B) you originally registered for, your registered email. Choose carefully in first submission.

Common Mistakes That Cause Rejection

• Photo with cap/sunglasses/unclear face. Always white background, no accessories, clear face.
• Wrong category entered. Once paid, category change is limited. Double-check your category certificate before selecting.
• Parent name mismatch with Class 10 certificate. Use exact same name as printed — even initials matter.
• DOB mismatch with Aadhaar/Class 10. NTA cross-verifies. Mismatch causes rejection at admit card stage.
• Paying fee without saving payment confirmation. If system glitches mid-payment, you need transaction ID to recover.
• Closing the browser before downloading confirmation PDF. No reliable way to recover; must re-submit which causes duplicates.
